Youth Art Enrichment (Dawson City, Yukon)

“Now in its 19th year, Youth Art Enrichment is an annual four-day art program for Yukon youth hosted by the Klondike Institute of Art & Culture (KIAC) in Dawson City.

Artistically-inclined youth aged 14-18 travel from across the Yukon to take part in intensive workshops with a professional artist. Students choose one of three courses to study for the duration of the program, in which they will hone their skills through daily exercises and explore creative ways to express their ideas.

The 2020 course options are A Printmaker’s Primer: Handmade Prints with Meshell Melvin, Act Your Mind: Theatre Creation & Performing Arts with Geneviève Paré, and Tell It Like It Is: Video Journalism & Documentary Filmmaking with APTN’s Charlotte Morritt-Jacobs

The ongoing success of the Youth Art Enrichment program is due in large part to the enthusiasm and positive mentorship offered by chaperones. Chaperones are fully immersed in the program and are the primary source of support for YAE participants.

Call for Instructors: Youth Art Enrichment (Dawson City, Yukon)

Closing Date for Applications: Dec 6, 2019 @ 4:30 pm

KIAC is seeking instructors for Youth Art Enrichment, a four-day intensive arts program for Yukon high school students, held in Dawson City, Yukon in March 22 – 27, 2020. Each instructor will teach a group of eight to twelve youth in their selected medium for the duration of the program.

The goal of the Youth Art Enrichment program is to provide Yukon youth who have an interest in the arts and creative industries with an intensive learning experience in one discipline, giving them time to develop skills and to learn from professional artists.

Examples of previous Youth Art Enrichment mediums include: Encaustics, Screen-printing, Digital Photography, Carving, Film, Animation, Improv & Acting, Mixed Media, Beading, Drawing, Painting, Paper-making. We are open to new ideas!

Dawson Film Lab (KIAC)

“The Dawson Film Lab is a unique filmmaking experience taking place in Dawson City, August 25-30.

A 5 day short film event in which 8 filmmakers participate in a collaborative exchange of ideas and knowledge and produce short films in 5 days. The Lab will end with a screening event on August 30, to view the works made during the week.

There are still a few spots open for participants! (Travel assistance available for participants outside Dawson City). $100 Fee to work alongside other amazing filmmakers.”

Duration: March 10-15, 2019 (program runs from March 11-14).

Wage: $35.00 an hour for class time, preparation, the final exhibition, and clean up – a total of 38 hours. A travel subsidy, meals and accommodation for out-of-town instructors are also provided.

Free Youth Art Series: Create With Clay II (Klondike Institute of Art & Culture, Dawson City)

Yukon Riverside Arts Festival (Aug 16-19, Dawson City)

“The Yukon Riverside Arts Festival takes place in many venues around Dawson City on Discovery Days weekend, particularly the open-air Riverside Park & Gazebo. The festival aims to provide an accessible environment for community members and visitors to interact directly with the arts and explore their creativity. We welcome artists practicing traditional and non-traditional contemporary art from the Yukon and abroad presenting a wide range of events, including exhibitions, workshops, lectures, public art, live music, an art market and more. Most festival events are free of charge.
