The Art For Aid Project

I am a Metis artist utilizing my artistic skills to create on paper, some of the many teachings and understandings I have. I use the sale of my art to pay for the building of The Art For Aid Project, and for shipping.
I try to reach out to as many remote communities as I can with boxes of new and gently used art supplies, crafts, etc. The goal is to help suppliment the schools, community centres and teachers with more and different art supplies so everyone has an opportunity to connect to an art form. This project engages people at all levels to become involved in supporting Indigenous art supplies in remote areas.

  • Principales activités d’art communautaire, d’art engagé ou d’art pour le changement social:
Funds are raised annually to pay for shipping of the supplies and to pay for admin costs through the sale of my art, and through fundraising efforts by other interested and engaged parties. Eventually we hope to be able to highlight students/schools and their art programs on our website and through social media to bring attention to the students’ art in remote communities. We are working at establishing a supply chain of new and donated art supplies that will be shipped to remote schools. We engage volunteer effort as the vehicle by which this is accomplished. The Art For Aid Project would be very interested in collaborating with other organizations to bring this effort to it's full potential.

I have gone into Catholic Schools to offer Indigenous art teaching support for children who are creating Indigenous art projects for education and awareness weeks/days.
When I attend these events I try to bring an awareness of the need for art support, as well as transportation support, into the remote communities.
I have worked with a few schools to get art supplies to remote areas with their own shipments or with people who are travelling to these areas.
  • Énoncé de mission:
The Art For Aid Project works to support Canadian First Nations, Inuit and Metis art education programs through art supplies, awareness and fundraising efforts in order to connect Indigenous youth to the endangered teachings, traditional techniques and knowledge of the culture through teachers, Elders and community. We seek to accomplish this by ensuring art supplies are in remote schools and communities.
  • ArtBridging:
I am able to offer a sizable collection of Indigenous art that can be utilized for various projects. My art is all available for lease and through digital alchemy, the art can be changed and altered to reflect a very unique product that can be used in corporate venues if needed; not something that is currently very uncommon in mainstream leasing but is a groundbreaking marketing concept. I am a graphic designer (not registered), photographer, and writer and can lend these skills to a project. I have a wealth of ideas that can be expanded on.
Where do we need help? - AFAP needs support in several areas, with the primary area of course, being funding. We are in need of transportation to bring donations of art supplies to remote communities. We are in need of people who are willing to promote the project and connect remote schools with AFAP so we can put them on the list of recipients for upcoming initiatives, and of course, we are always in need of new and gently used art supplies. Additionally, we need people to support us in procuring the right grant application to enhance the project's efforts and legal and financial support to establish The Art For Aid Project as a registered non-profit so we can expand our scope.
