In the performance company, the seniors are from Edmonton and area and the ‘Friends’ are students and alumni from the University of Alberta. Members range in age from early twenties to late eighties. Using a playful approach to theatre and emphasizing social interaction, we produce original plays based on our stories and issues of aging.

Our outreach programs involve seniors from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in a wide range of theatrical activities. No previous theatre experience required is required. All mobilities welcome. Programs include: workshops in performance storytelling, dance and acting; JP Drama: Just Play! (in collaboration with Jasper Place High School); FEST (Festival of Edmonton Seniors Theatre); RapidGeris (comedy improv with Rapid Fire Theatre); Under One Sky (a multicultural storytelling project); and our Facilitator Training Program.
  • Mandate/Mission:
Our mission is to engage seniors and intergenerational groups in which seniors are included, in theatre and performance-related activities, and to produce plays that are meaningful for our performers and audiences.

Adhering to the principles of Creative Aging, we believe that seniors’ engagement in the arts at a level of comparative mastery leads to significant health benefits, an overall sense of well-being and a marked increase in social and civic engagement.
