Creative Facilitation Workshop: Express Yourself
“This introductory workshop provides a framework for using arts-based practices to strengthen your effectiveness as a facilitator. Participants develop basic skills in using the arts to facilitate groups of all sizes and a tool-box of easy to lead activities. The training gives youth participants strategies for engaging a full range of learning styles and bringing out the strengths of group members. And in the process participants build their confidence in their own creativity and recognize that you don’t have to be a professional artist to use the arts in your work with people of all ages, particularly youth.
Creative Facilitation is for anyone who works with youth or adult groups: youth workers, teachers, social workers, counselors, health care providers, facilitators, and trainers.
At this workshop, you will learn: easy-to-lead activities based on storytelling, creative writing, visual arts, music, drama, and movement; techniques for navigating group dynamics; ways to engage your own creativity; and personal presentation skills.
Facilitator: Nadia Chaney
Nadia Chaney is a spoken word artist, curriculum writer and arts empowerment facilitator and trainer. Since 2002 she has facilitated well over a thousand events and workshops on four continents using the arts for personal and social transformation. She is a co-founder of Metaphor (meta4crew.com), a hip-hop based youth empowerment project that has delivered more than 400 shows in schools and communities across British Columbia. Nadia specializes in anti-oppression, creative risk-taking, and participatory decision-making.

Grant Writing 101
This interactive session will explore the basics of preparing a grant application. It will breakdown the main components of an application including the proposal, work plan and budget; and provide tips for creating a clear, concise application – one that is useful to you in implementing your project. The facilitators will share tips for building relationships with funders and provide all participants with a booklet and list of youth and arts funders.

These workshops are part of the larger GOAL (Grassroots Organizing and Leadership) Youth Workshop Series. A certificate will be provided to participants who attend 5 or more workshops in the series.
