“Vancouver Indigenous Media Arts Festival 2013 – Call for Submissions
The Vancouver Indigenous Media Arts Festival (VIMAF) invites new works in media arts from Indigenous media artists of Turtle Island and abroad.
This festival has been brought to you by the letter R.
Remix. Reflect. Resonate. Remain.
2013 is already becoming an historic year for Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island and the world. The Indigenous media arts community is thriving, and with the rise of the grassroots social justice movement Idle No More to the last National Event from Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission in September, 2013 promises to be a pivotal year.
The theme of this year’s festival is the letter ‘R.’ The festival’s four-word tagline speaks to a culture of appropriation and sampling, a practice prevalent in the digital and electronic dance music scenes globally as well as in popular media, and a growing community of artists, makers, and leaders. We encourage you to submit works which reflect the words in our theme, or to explore your own R word.
