This year\u2019s festival will feature over 50 films made by up-\u00adand-\u00adcoming and established Canadian and international filmmakers, including documentary, fiction and animation programming for all ages. Highlights include <strong>Roda Siad\u2019s documentary IN BETWEEN STORIES<\/strong>, which follows four young artists living in African diaspora communities in Toronto, and <strong>Fredrick King\u2019s LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL<\/strong>, a comedic mockumentary illuminating prejudice in today\u2019s secondary school systems.<\/p>\n<p>The Youth Media Arts Program will be preceded by a <strong>Star Panel on the theme \u00ab\u00a0Where We Come From,\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong> hosted by veteran Canadian producer <strong>Sandra Cunningham<\/strong>, former chair of the Canadian Film and Television Production Association. This provocative expos\u00e9 of inner-\u00ad\u2010city redevelopment will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Regent Park Film Festival Vice-\u00ad\u2010Chair <strong>Jason Creed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Panelists will include REZONING HARLEM filmmakers Natasha Florentino and Tamara Gubernat, as well as Deany Peters, a health worker at the Regent Park Community Health Centre, and <strong>Mustafa Ahmed<\/strong>, the 16-\u00ad\u2010year-\u00ad\u2010 old \u201cpoet of Regent Park.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #bf1627;\"><strong>THE INTERRUPTERS: Film &amp; Panel Discussion \u2013 Nov 9 @ 6:30pm<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>From <strong>director Steve James (HOOP DREAMS; STEVIE)<\/strong> comes this 2012 documentary about three Chicago violence interrupters who transform their own troubled pasts into a chance to stop violence one fight at a time. The film will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by <strong>Olu Quamina, Executive Director of the youth engagement organization Concrete Roses<\/strong>, exploring violence prevention strategies for Toronto. <strong>Cobe Williams<\/strong>, one of the interrupters featured in the film, will be present for a Q&amp;A following the screening.<\/p>\n<p>Additional festival highlights include the Saturday morning <strong>Family Screening of Tetsu Hirakawa\u2019s<\/strong> Japanese animated feature <strong>LIGHT OF THE RIVER<\/strong>, which includes free breakfast provided by the Christian Resource Centre, and <strong>Bobbito Garcia<\/strong> and <strong>Kevin Couliau\u2019<\/strong>s feature documentary <strong>DOIN\u2019 IT IN THE PARK<\/strong>, an examination of pickup basketball culture in New York City that explores the history, culture and social impact of New York\u2019s summer b-\u00ad\u2010ball scene.<\/p>\n<p>The Regent Park Film Festival festival also offers a<strong> FREE School Program for grades 1-\u00ad\u20108<\/strong> from Nov 7-\u00ad\u20109 at Daniels Spectrum. The festival&rsquo;s education committee has developed lessons plans based on the Ontario curriculum to help teachers incorporate the festival experience into the classroom.
