Art City in St. James Town submitted some photos to ArtBridges from a great project their community arts organization did recently. If you have photos and a story to share about an interesting community arts project, please send them in to us at info@artbridges.ca. By sharing stories, others may be inspired!\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0During Fall 2013, the Red Slam Collective<\/a><\/strong> worked with\u00a0Art City<\/a><\/strong> students leading a series of Urban Art workshops called Da Jump Off,<\/strong> which is connected to the Medicine Wheel teachings. Using their own words and experiences, the children explored the creation story in the 4 Directions of the Medicine Wheel through four urban art mediums: Graffiti Writing, B-boying, Beat Making and MC’ing.<\/p>\n

Every session begins with the Sharing Circle and honoring the 4 Directions, and smudging with one of the four sacred medicines. After 11 weeks of workshops the four stories produced through the four mediums were then interwoven into a final showcase for friends, family and community members at the Wellesley Community Centre.<\/p>\n
