\"AdakaCulturalFestival5\"<\/a>The Ad\u00e4ka Cultural Festival kicks off Friday, June 27th with an amazing line-up of artists and performers from each Yukon First Nation and all over the world! Check out the workshop schedule for FREE youth workshops in carving, stained-glass mosaic, t-shirt stenciling, breakdancing and MORE!<\/a> – Cora, Indigenous Community Arts Coordinator & Communications Assistant, ArtBridges<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Over 150 aboriginal artists and performers from Canada, Alaska and New Zealand will descend upon Whitehorse this summer to share their arts and culture with Yukon residents and visitors from around the world.<\/p>\n

Taking place from June 27th \u2013 July 3rd at the Kwanlin D\u00fcn Cultural Centre, the Festival will present a world-class program featuring traditional and contemporary music, drumming, dance, storytelling, film, visual art exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops, interpretive programming, a community feast and more!<\/p>\n

The 2014 program will feature a special collaborative project titled ‘Journey with our Hearts and Hands,’<\/em> which will bring 15 master sculptors from New Zealand, Alaska, Haida Gwaii, Vancouver, Northwest Territories and Yukon together to exhibit their work and share ideas, inspiration and knowledge through discussion forums and informal studio time in a carving tent by the Yukon River.<\/p>\n

Ad\u00e4ka\u2019s main stage program will also feature an impressive line up including 3 award-winning performers:<\/p>\n

Florent Vollant<\/strong>, a dynamic Innu singer-songwriter, formally part of the internationally acclaimed duo KASHTIN. \u201cWell-rounded, mysterious, simplicity but always rich, the Montagnais\u2019s music eases life. Opulent.\u201d – Voir<\/em><\/p>\n

Don Amero<\/strong>, a rootsy country, folk and soul singer songwriter from Winnipeg, Manitoba. \u201cSince he burst onto the local scene with his sweet tenor voice and his beautiful acoustic songs, Don Amero has been called one of its brightest lights.\u201d \u2013 John Kendle, Uptown Magazine<\/em><\/p>\n

Westley Hardisty<\/strong>, a Dene fiddling sensation whose unique blend of rock, folk, Celtic and M\u00e9tis music is compelling and emotional.<\/p>\n

The festival audience will also enjoy many of Yukon\u2019s favourite performers including Diyet, Boyd Benjamin, Jerry Alfred and Vision Quest to name a few, as well as 15 traditional dance groups from Yukon, Alaska and Atlin.<\/p>\n
