We\u2019re hoping that by occasionally highlighting some profiles on our blog, you may learn about an initiative that you may not have initially seen in the directory. Also, if you know of a Canadian community-engaged arts for social change initiative that isn\u2019t in our directory, but should be, please\u00a0let us know<\/a>! \u00ab\u00a0Indian Art From the Edge<\/strong> is an online gallery of art by Aboriginal artists largely — but by no means only — living in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. They have experienced great difficulties in life, a number still struggling with the negative impacts of the residential school system and colonialism. Yet even in the face of the social and psychological and economic difficulties they face, they create beautiful works of art. They are carvers, painters, craftspeople, they draw on traditional art forms and styles but make them their own – bringing their own experiences, their own perceptions into every piece, whether a small carving done while sitting on the street, or a magnificent acrylic painting on a ceremonial drum, or a classic painting on canvas. Their creativity is inspired and inspiring.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n
