\u00ab\u00a0Art City<\/a> invites local, national, and international artists to submit proposals to lead collaborative art workshops at our studio in 2016 and early 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Art City is a drop-in community art studio located in West Broadway, a culturally diverse and densely populated neighbourhood in the heart of Winnipeg\u2019s inner city. Art City is open free-of-charge for anyone (all ages), engaging an average of 28 participants per evening. The vast majority of those who come to Art City are youth between the ages of 6 and 13 years. Older youth, adults, and seniors also regularly participate in Art City programs.<\/p>\n

Guest Artist proposals are selected by a Jury made up of Art City staff, Board members, and former Guest Artists. Selected Guest Artists will be supported in developing, managing, and facilitating their workshops by the Artistic Director, two Art City staff, and at least two volunteers per workshop. Proposals should be designed for a 5-day period, Monday \u2013 Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Artists* will receive $1,500.00 fees for a five day workshop. Travel, accommodations, and per diem will be provided for selected non-local artists.
\nAll selected artists will be required to obtain a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check, eligible for reimbursement by Art City.<\/p>\n

Art City Request for Proposals \u00a0–\u00a02015\/16 Professional Guest Artist Series –\u00a0Submission Guidelines<\/strong><\/span>
\nAll submissions must include the following:<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Your name, address, e-mail and phone number
\n\u2022 A short (one page) letter of interest, describing:
\n– As an artist, why do you want to collaborate with the West Broadway community?
\n– How will your workshop facilitate a meaningful artistic exchange between you and
\nmembers of the West Broadway community?
\n– How will this experience benefit\/impact you as an artist?
\n\u2022 Proposed title and brief description of the workshop
\n\u2022 A workshop outline describing each daily 5-hour session (allowing half an hour for snack time)
\n\u2022 An itemized materials list
\n\u2022 A brief biography summarizing professional achievements (1 paragraph)
\n\u2022 CV including professional activity and past community engagement (3 pgs maximum)
\n\u2022 Visual support in digital format (maximum ten images and\/or three minutes video)
\n\u2022 Include corresponding list of works with title, date, medium, and dimensions<\/p>\n

Selection criteria for Art City Professional Guest Artist Series proposals:<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Demonstrated professional art practice
\n\u2022 Demonstrated understanding of urban and\/or cultural issues pertaining to
\nour community
\n\u2022 Experience and willingness in working with participants of all abilities and ages
\n\u2022 Creativity and\/or quality of proposed workshop
\n\u2022 Proposed workshop reflects the artist\u2019s own art practice
\n\u2022 Applicability and thoroughness of project outline
\n\u2022 Content appropriateness for a youth audience
\n\u2022 Art media appropriateness for Art City and a youth audience (e.g. cost effective and
\nnon-toxic, etc.)<\/p>\n

Art City participants enjoy the projects best when…<\/strong>
\n\u2022 The activities are clearly explained, make sense, are simple, make use of examples,
\nand can be re-explained to new participants as they arrive throughout the evening
\n\u2022 They learn something new
\n\u2022 They make something they can use and\/or play with, and\/or take home to share with
\ntheir friends and family
\n\u2022 They are able to participate in collaborative projects, especially through working on
\nindividual or small group components that can be combined to create one big
\nfinished product
\n\u2022 Activities are culturally relevant to their own lives\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n
