\u00ab\u00a0Are you a playwright, choreographer, composer or performance creator?
\nWere you born in 1995? Then we want you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This fall, Nightswimming<\/a> is launching a 5-year project to commission 5 new works by performance creators born in 1995. Nightswimming was also born in 1995, when we premiered our first play, Don Druick\u2019s Through the Eyes, at The Theatre Centre in Toronto.<\/p>\n

Nightswimming is requesting applications from theatre creators across Canada.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the next 5 years, we\u2019ll accept proposals from artists born in 1995. Tell us what you want to create. We\u2019ll read the proposals, short list the applicants, and then commission one proposal each year.<\/p>\n

In 2020 we\u2019ll celebrate our 25th anniversary by showcasing the 5 projects and artists we commissioned over the 5 years.<\/p>\n

Nightswimming\u2019s 5\u00d725 is open to writers, choreographers, composers, designers and activists who love performance and have an idea and a project they want to create. We\u2019re open to anything that happens in a space with an audience.<\/p>\n

If we accept your proposal, you\u2019ll join our roster of commissioned artists, which include Carmen Aguirre and Anita Majumdar. We\u2019ll provide a $5,000 commission, develop a process with you to create the piece, bring you to Toronto to work on it, and seek out producers or festivals to get it in front of an audience.<\/p>\n

DEADLINE \u2013 Please email applications to no later than 5 pm (EST) on November 30th, 2015 to rupal@nightswimmingtheatre.com<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

APPLICATION \u2013 A single PDF document (maximum 4 pages) or a single YouTube video (maximum 5 minutes) answering the following questions, in this order:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1) Describe Your Project<\/strong>
\nWhat ideas, issues or questions are you exploring and what excites you about them?
\n(If there is one) what is the story you want to tell?
\nWhy do you want to make this artistic work and how do you imagine creating it?
\nWhat do you want to achieve by putting your ideas in front of an audience?<\/p>\n

2) About You<\/strong>
\nGive us a quick bio, including your other artistic interests
\nA description of any past relevant experience, paid or un-paid.<\/p>\n

3) A copy or scan of government-issued photo identification, showing your year of birth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We welcome applicants and projects from across Canada, in all performance disciplines and all languages. We welcome and encourage applications from LGBTQ* artists, artists of colour, women and Indigenous\/First Nations artists. Need a different way to send your ideas in? Let us know.<\/p>\n
