This year\u2019s theme is Stolen Sisters, as we tackle the difficult topic of gender-based violence. The evening will offer a diverse line-up of monologues by Canadian playwrights, as well as slam poetry and spoken word by women with lived experience. Our goal is to honour women by telling their stories and to explore multiple perspectives on the subject.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">2016 Line-Up:<br \/>\n<em><strong>Doing It for the Fame<\/strong><\/em> by Makrenna Sterdan<br \/>\nperformed by Kim Kakegamic<br \/>\nIt\u2019s a satirical game show for women who want to accuse male celebrities of abuse! Tune in to find out if Jane Doe will win \u2018believablity\u2019 and the grand prize of getting to report her assault!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Chance<\/strong><\/em> by Melaina Sheldon<br \/>\nperformed by Kelsey Wavey<br \/>\nA young First Nations woman goes out for a night on the town, but things do not go as planned. For her, a safe ride home will not come and protection does not lie where it should.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Lingua Franca<\/strong><\/em> by Frances Koncan<br \/>\nperformed by Erica Wilson<br \/>\nUsing dark humour and a morbid sense of wit, a young woman in purgatory reflects on the circumstances of her untimely death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Good Enough<\/strong><\/em> by Lynne C. Martin<br \/>\nperformed by Shaneen Robinson<br \/>\nDonna dreams of being happily married to Bear, the father of her baby, but the pecking order of racism and gender oppression stands in her way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>The Visitor<\/strong><\/em> by Alison McEvoy Murray<br \/>\nperformed by Heather Bjorklund<br \/>\nA woman makes an appearance for a special anniversary but she cannot get through to the women in her family. Will they ever know what has happened to her?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>She Said<\/strong><\/em> by Robyn Pooley<br \/>\nperformed by Teri-Lynn Friesen<br \/>\nAngela erupts during a blind date in response to a rape joke. Will she work through her own anger and misgivings about rape culture and Bill Cosby?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Finding Freedom<\/strong><\/em> Spoken Word by Shamin Brown<br \/>\nperformed by Shamin Brown<br \/>\nPowerful slam poetry challenging the marginalization and social isolation that keeps the voices of women and children in the sex trade silenced behind shame.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Warrior<\/strong><\/em> by Helena Kelly<br \/>\nperformed by Montana Lehmann<br \/>\nUsing traditional storytelling techniques, this piece follows the journey of Honey who must escape the dark creature to save herself. She fights to discover the warrior within.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Stolen Girls<\/strong><\/em> by Hope McIntyre<br \/>\nperformed by Sydney Macfarlane<br \/>\nThis movement based piece remembers the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls in Nigeria in April 2014. Why is it that women are used as pawns in the wars between men?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>QUIET<\/strong><\/em> by Mary Black<br \/>\nperformed by Mary Black<br \/>\nA spoken word piece on living as a quiet Indigenous woman in the inner-city.
