\u00ab\u00a0H\u2019art Centre<\/strong> will host an afternoon of adapted dance workshops on April 9th in THE BOX, 237 Wellington Street in Kingston.<\/p>\n

Beginning at noon, participants can learn integrated warm up techniques, take part in creativity exercises, and enjoy demonstrations led by Menka Nagrani, the founder and choreographer of Montreal\u2019s Les Productions des Pieds des Mains<\/strong>, and one of her celebrated dancers. Participants can also create a short, integrated dance piece based on their work in the workshop.<\/p>\n

Then, at 3 p.m., participants will learn up to five seated dances demonstrated by Jackie Mills, founder of Sit \u2018N\u2019 Dance<\/strong>. In this presentation, participants will learn seated dances in jazz, ballroom, folk, and swing styles as well as get ideas for creating seated dance moves and methods for adapting moves for people with special needs or mobility issues.<\/p>\n

Each workshop is roughly two hours in length. Comfortable clothes and soft shoes are recommended. No previous dance experience needed.<\/p>\n

These workshops are highly recommended for dance educators, artist educators, educators, social service workers, and post secondary students with interest in rehabilitation, physical therapy, education, nursing, and more.<\/p>\n

The workshops are part of H\u2019art Centre\u2019s 2016 Able Artists program<\/strong>, an ongoing series of workshops that aim to share the value of the arts to people with disabilities.<\/p>\n
