{"id":23874,"date":"2019-07-09T06:41:11","date_gmt":"2019-07-09T10:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artbridgesblog.ca\/en\/?p=23874"},"modified":"2019-07-09T06:41:11","modified_gmt":"2019-07-09T10:41:11","slug":"call-art-as-an-agent-for-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artbridges.ca\/fr\/call-art-as-an-agent-for-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Papers: Art as an Agent for Change: How do Art, Museum, and Education Practices Inspire Action?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artbridgesblog.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/mmba.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23875\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0International Conference Hosted by the Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al (UQAM) and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA)  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Art\nas an Agent forChange: How do Art, Museum, and Education Practices\nInspire Action?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>June\n15\u201317, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nUQAM Research Chair for the Development of Innovative Practices in\nArt, Culture, and Well-being, the research group ArtEspaceSocial, and\nthe Montreal Museum of Fine Arts invite you to the international\nconference <em>Art\nas an Agent for Change<\/em><em>:\nHow do Art, Museum, and Education Practices Inspire Action? <\/em>,\nto be held at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Universit\u00e9 du\nQu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al from June 15 to 17, 2020. This conference will\nprovide an opportunity to discuss research projects, art practices,\nand participatory experiences in the arts, museum education and art\neducation. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Art,\nmuseum, and education practices that combine art with the social\nparticipation of marginalized groups; art and inclusive education;\nand art that supports mental and physical well-being have been part\nof Quebec\u2019s cultural landscape for more than a decade. These\npractices have been implemented in a range of contexts with various\npopulations, and interest is growing among researchers,\npractitioners, health organizations, and community groups. Presenters\nwill be asked to explore the conference theme by considering the\nfollowing question: How and under what conditions do art, education,\nand museum practices inspire individual and collective action?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Proposals\nwill address the following issues:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From\nan individual standpoint:<\/strong>\nHow do art, museum education, and formal and informal education\npractices promote mental, physical, or intellectual (re)mobilization?\nHow do they enable greater self-awareness? How do they affect an\nindividual\u2019s capacity to re-energize, self-motivate, exercise\ngreater resilience, and activate creativity? How do they break\nthrough isolation and enable individuals to see themselves as\nstakeholders within a community? How can art contribute to\nself-education and a commitment to the pursuit of an objective? How\nshould the ethical issues related to these practices be addressed? \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From\na collective standpoint:<\/strong>\nHow do art, museum education, and formal and informal education\npractices promote inclusion and community participation? How do they\naffect the ability to forge relationships, despite differences? How\ndo they allow a community to identify itself as such, to be seen and\nheard, and to take public action? How can contact with art and\ncreating and experiencing art contribute to harmonious community life\nin pluralist societies? How do these practices encourage social and\npolitical action?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>From\na societal standpoint: <\/strong>Under\nwhat conditions could these practices be recognized as complementary\nto health, communication, and education initiatives, which must\nincreasingly respond to complex problems that require additional\nforms of collaboration, perspectives, and approaches? What are the\nconsequences when culture and art are not accessible to citizens? Are\nthe impact assessments required by funding agencies beneficial or\neven possible? To what extent are social sciences and health\nmethodologies applicable to these assessments?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>Pre<\/strong><strong>sentation\nre<\/strong><strong>quirements<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong>\nConference\npresentation proposals must be submitted in English or French with\nthis application <a href=\"https:\/\/artculturemieuxetre.uqam.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2019\/05\/FORMUL-APPEL-A-COMM-Se-mobiliser-PRTG.docx\">form<\/a>.\nA confirmation\nwill be sent upon receipt of your proposal.
