Forum Theatre\u202fis an\u202f<\/strong>interactive and participatory style of theatre\u202f<\/strong>designed to\u202faddress social issues<\/strong>\u202fand\u202finspire actionable change.<\/strong>

In this intensive all levels online workshop<\/strong>\u202fled by award winning Forum Theatre artist Simon <\/strong>Malbogat<\/strong>, participants will learn about the evolution of Forum Theatre and how this social justice-based theatre style can be used to\u202fspark community dialogue<\/strong>\u202fand\u202fempower grassroots advocacy<\/strong>.\u202f 
 
Through theatre games and discussion, participants\u202fwill discover how Forum Theatre techniques of community participation, intervention, and improvisation can help build tool kits for\u202fcharacter development, devised creation, and audience engagement. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community organizers, social workers, and educators will <\/strong>learn how including Forum Theatre principles in their everyday practice can initiate vital conversation<\/strong>, engage in critical inquiry<\/strong>, and create social change<\/strong> in their communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This workshop was developed out of Mixed Company\u2019s recent virtual Forum Theatre projects.<\/strong> Through critical dialogue we will reflect and process the results with participants, considering how Forum Theatre can be used effectively for virtual presentations.

October 28<\/strong>th<\/sup><\/strong> & 29<\/strong>th<\/sup><\/strong>: Forum Theatre Playwriting Virtual Workshop<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Facilitated by Mixed Company Associate Artist Luciano <\/strong>Iogna<\/strong>, this two-evening workshop will take participants through the fundamental process of Forum Theatre script development<\/strong>. Participants will learn how to use theatre games, exercises and techniques as research tools<\/strong>, how to ask explorative yet respectful questions<\/strong>, how to develop oppressive and oppressed characters<\/strong>, and how to care for the community knowledge<\/strong> which informs Forum Theatre script development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This online playwriting workshop aims to support MCT’s Introduction to Forum Theatre by supplying participants with pivotal scripting methods, tools and tricks<\/strong> to utilize when working with groups on important social topics. These skills are essential to develop in order to script targeted, impactful, and uniquely interactive<\/strong> theatrical plays and scenarios<\/strong> for various types of oppressive conflict. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prerequisites<\/strong>:\u202fWorkshop participants must have taken MCT’s Introduction to Forum Theatre or have had some previous experience with Forum Theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As this is our first time offering these workshops virtually, we will strive to teach all of the items mentioned above. However, should it not be possible to cover all items, Luciano is offering virtual follow-up meetings for participants at no extra cost. Participants will be able to sign up for one private, virtual meeting to review their written Forum Theatre work with Luciano and ask questions about topics discussed in the workshop.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luciano has set aside November 3rd<\/sup> & 4th<\/sup>, between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM for these meetings, and will personally follow up with participants with sign up information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
