(Saskatchewan)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/artbridges.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/02\/common-weal-arts.jpg\" rel=\"PrettyPhoto[469]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-470\" title=\"Common Weal Arts\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/artbridges.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/02\/common-weal-arts.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"87\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.commonweal-arts.com\/\"> Common Weal Community Arts Inc.<\/a> is a charitable community arts organization <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">founded in<\/span> 1993 with Rachael Van Fossen as Artistic Director.\u00a0 Its <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">mandate<\/span> is to engage artists collaboratively with communities to promote social change and cultural identity.\u00a0 Common Weal <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">works with<\/span> many different communities throughout Saskatchewan and does not maintain a studio space on a regular basis.\u00a0 <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">Offices<\/span> are based in Regina and Prince Albert. The <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">participants <\/span>of programs often come from marginalized communities.\u00a0 Common Weal helps to give them a voice through artistic practices. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"> Common Weal&rsquo;s <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">language of service<\/span> is primarily English.\u00a0 They <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">work with people of all ages<\/span>, with an average <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">number of participants<\/span> in all programs of 800 per year.\u00a0 <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">Hours of operation <\/span>are flexible, depending on the project.\u00a0 Common Weal works in<span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"> all disciplines <\/span>including drama, visual arts, video, photography, with the art practice geared towards the best way of working with the community and the discipline of the contracted artist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"> Common Weal has three full-time <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">permanent staff.<\/span> Depending on budgets, they often hire two <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">part-time staff<\/span>, and will contract with approximately 25 <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">artists <\/span>per year depending on the projects undertaken.\u00a0 Approximately 20 <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">volunteers<\/span> are involved on a yearly basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><!--more--><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"> The Artistic Directors from both offices engage with and respond to communities to develop and present artistic\/creative community arts projects.\u00a0 Programs are usually offered at <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">no charge<\/span> to the participants.\u00a0 The projects often conclude with a <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">public presentation<\/span> that helps to create awareness of the program and the communities involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"> Common Weal <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">impacts<\/span> communities who are under-served or who do not presently access mainstream arts programming and works towards changing the lives of the people involved in a positive way.\u00a0 It has developed great community partnerships throughout the province of Saskatchewan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"> Common Weal will continue to fulfill its mandate by facilitating programs and projects that will make a positive impact in communities throughout Saskatchewan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"> Common Weal operates with a Board of Directors using a policy form of governance, and has a budget of $350,000 a year, not including in-kind contributions of approximately $200,000.\u00a0 Approximately 90% of Common Weal&rsquo;s funding comes from grants from the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the Canada Council and municipal governments.\u00a0 It has a <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">budget<\/span> for professional development and training.\u00a0 Common Weal <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">will be hosting a national conference <\/span>on community engaged arts on May 14th, 15th and 16th, 2010 in Regina.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"> Common Weal is an <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">established<\/span> community arts organization, interested in partnering and doing <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">outreach<\/span> with other community arts projects\/program\/organizations\/resources.\u00a0 They would be pleased to <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">partner <\/span>with other emerging and established community arts organizations to share information, develop joint programs, and <span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">offer <\/span>mentoring and advice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\">Please see ArtBridges&rsquo;
