Portraits Beyond Boundaries<\/a> is a\u00a0community arts not-for-profit, volunteer organization <\/span>that was\u00a0founded<\/span> in\u00a02008 by mother and daughter Susan Lazar Hart and Kelsey Hart. Its\u00a0mandate<\/span> is\u00a0to get children to discover themselves through art and to learn about other people through art, then gift their art to someone else, through\u00a0art exchanges. The\u00a0general model<\/span> is outreach – they conduct short-term art workshops with children and youth in both Canada and abroad.<\/p>\n

Portraits Beyond Boundaries has facilitated\u00a0art workshops<\/span> in\u00a0Nepal,\u00a0New Zealand, Canada, Australia and England (it has no limits to the countries it will volunteer in!) It is based in<\/span> Montreal and Toronto. They work with<\/span> children and youth,\u00a0ages\u00a06-18. Each workshop has from 10-75\u00a0participants; last year they worked with about 200 children and youth. The arts disciplines offered<\/span> are primarily visual arts and writing (poetry, creative) but, they have engaged other art forms.<\/p>\n

Portraits Beyond Boundaries is managed<\/span> by\u00a0the founders and volunteer directors (Susan and Kelsey.) They team up with\u00a0local teachers, community workers and artists. They conduct art workshops in\u00a0donated venues\u00a0such as schools and community\u00a0centers\u00a0(including an ashram!). They do not have a permanent studio (though their website aims to be their \u201cpermanent studio!\u201d)\u00a0 They offer <\/span>workshops that are both drop-in (for kids on the street), and\u00a0pre-arranged with schools\/not-for-profits. It is free<\/span> of charge.\u00a0They have not had art exhibits yet, though they would like to.\u00a0Students and their artwork\u00a0can be seen on their website.<\/p>\n

Portraits Beyond Boundaries is really good at<\/span> providing children and youth with the chance to paint\/draw\/create by offering supplies and guidance in unique and diverse communities.\u00a0 Its target<\/span> this year\u00a0is\u00a0to make the website fabulous,\u00a0more interactive and to continue to grow the organization.\u00a0Kelsey indicated that\u00a0some guidance with\u00a0strategic planning and fundraising would be helpful. As a volunteer organization, their budget is modest.<\/p>\n
