Welcoming addresses follow leading to the much anticipated performance of <em>DISS<\/em> \u2013 written by award-winning playwright, Rex Deverell, directed by Associate Artistic Director, Duncan McCallum. Multidisciplinary in approach \u2013 <em>DISS<\/em> weaves hip hop and beat boxing into a forum theatre play \u2013 presenting the worst-case scenarios of <strong>gang involvement<\/strong>, catalyzing audiences to speak-up and make a change in their lives and communities. Developed in partnership with Toronto Police Service, the <em>DISS<\/em> troupe performs at <strong>MCT\u2019s Annual STARS Awards Gala<\/strong> while on its 3rd consecutive year touring Toronto priority neighbourhoods \u2013 May 11-June 10 2011 \u2013 made possible by support from Toronto Police Services Board.<\/p>\n<p>The Gala second half is ushered in by Ax\u00e9 Capoeira Studio\u2019s magnificent Afro-Brazilian style dance spiced with elements of acrobatics, music, art, and self-defense, followed by the exciting <strong>STARS Awards presentation ceremony<\/strong>. At evening close, Gala guests and award recipients are treated to the imaginative artistry of lindy hop and rock and roll from Toronto\u2019s Bees&rsquo; Knees Dance Studio, specializing in creating opportunities for amateur dancers.
