“The Countdown Public Art Legacy Project is a series of pebble mosaic workshops to create monuments that honour survivors of sexual violence.
Pebble mosaic monuments
From February to March 2019, Red Dress Productions, Amelia Rising Sexual Assault Centre, Lanark County Interval House, the Sexual Assault Centre of Brant, Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre, and Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre collaborated with 300 residents in North Bay, Carleton Place, Brantford, and Peterborough, Ontario.
Each community created a unique, six-foot diameter, pebble mosaic monument in tribute to sexual assault survivors. These four new monuments will be permanently installed and unveiled from May to July.
Benches for Eganville monument
In May, two benches for the Eganville Countdown monument will be unveiled. Nestled next to the mosaic in Centennial Park, they are the result of a collaboration with Ottawa Valley Creative Arts Open Studio.

About the Countdown Project
The Countdown Public Art Legacy Project was launched in 2016 after the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County invited Red Dress Productions to bring its vision into being.
Workshops were held with residents, municipal bodies, local partners, and artists in Pembroke, Eganville, Killaloe, and Pikwàkanagàn First Nation to create the first four monuments.
The Countdown Project will continue into 2022. Visit our interactive map of Countdown mosaics across Ontario.
