As ArtBridges’ Community-Engaged Arts Directory grows, we realize that it’s a bit overwhelming to read through all of the profiles. We’re hoping that by occasionally highlighting some profiles on our blog, you may learn about an initiative that you may not have initially seen in the directory. Also, if you know of a Canadian community-engaged arts for social change initiative that isn’t in our directory, but should be, please let us know! We love and need your input/feedback in building this resource! -Lisa, Content Coordinator at ArtBridges.
“Established in 2005 in response to a lack of arts programming available for young people in communities across Ontario, the Possibility Fund subsidizes performances and workshops in schools that are identified as under-served by district school boards.
The Possibility Fund addresses issues of equity caused by limited school arts budgets, inadequate fundraising capacity at schools in under-served communities and marginalization of young people due to their socio-economic status, cultural background or other factors.
Currently involving a partnership with the Toronto District School Board and also reaching some schools outside of the GTA, Prologue is seeking to expand this initiative to engage young people in under-served, Northern and rural communities across Ontario.
Prologue to the Performing Arts (Prologue) is a not-for-profit charitable organization that facilitates access to high-quality performing arts experiences in schools and communities across Ontario. In 2017, Prologue celebrated 50 years of reaching young people through engaging and impactful performances and workshops in dance, theatre, music, storytelling, spoken word poetry and more.
Prologue supports a diverse roster of 40 artists and companies who bring the very best in live performance to Ontario schools.”
