“At its idyllic location on the Whitehorse waterfront the Adäka Cultural Festival shines with awesome energy, arousing inspiration, pride, and excitement in the thousands of artists, visitors, and supporters who attend the Festival each year.

The Adäka Cultural Festival brings Yukon First Nations artists together with Aboriginal artists from across Canada and around the world to share and celebrate their creativity and culture with a local, national and international audience. From June 21-27 over 150 performing and visual artists will gather at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre in downtown Whitehorse to participate in a vibrant program of events including traditional & contemporary music, dance & drumming, art exhibitions, artist demonstrations, cultural presentations, workshops and seminars, drumming circles, storytelling, a community feast and more!

WHO SHOULD APPLY:
Application is open to traditional and contemporary emerging and master Aboriginal artists in the following categories:
– Visual Art
– Traditional Craft
– Music
– Dance
– Traditional Drumming/Dancing
– Storytelling
– Film/Media Art
– Theatre

A jury will evaluate all applications and use the following criteria to guide their selection:
– Representation from each cultural / language group in Yukon
– Guest Artists from outside Yukon willing to collaborate and teach
– A balance of contemporary and traditional artists from a variety of disciplines
– Artists who demonstrate a strong commitment to their art or cultural practice

ARTIST SPONSORSHIP INFORMATION:
Partial Sponsorship, Deadline April 19, 2013
– $40/day per diem + $0.30/km travel subsidy. Must arrange your own accommodation
No Sponsorship, Deadline May 17, 2013
– Artists may be register to take part in Festival, but must cover costs to attend
