Call for Community Artists to Deliver Arts Programs at the Bluffs Gallery

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Friday May 20 at 6:00 PM
APPLICATION FORM: http://goo.gl/forms/qcrGHLxJ9v

Are you an artist with a desire to share your passion for your craft? Would you be interested in leading a community paint night? Organizing an art walk through the Rouge? Leading a creative movement session in our gallery? Facilitating a talk about an issue relevant to artists working in Scarborough? Do you want to learn more about how to execute an arts event in your community, or how to connect your community through art?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then Scarborough Arts wants you to submit an application to facilitate a session in our Bluffs Gallery, as part of Scarborough Arts’ new suite of in-house programs.

Scarborough Arts is excited to announce that as of July 2016, we will offer a new series of classes and art events in our Bluffs gallery and its surrounding spaces. We need the help of local area artists who are passionate about Scarborough to make it happen! We invite the community to animate our gallery space on the Bluffs by facilitating, teaching, or leading an activity that corresponds to one of the following streams of activity:

Scarborough Arts Creates: We need artists that want to lead a paint night, or teach a class on a particular form of art making (charcoal, life drawing, oil painting, watercolour, portrait, pen and ink, etc). Get creative and tell us what kind of arts practices you want to share with the community!

Scarborough Arts Moves: Are you a yoga teacher, tai chi instructor, or dancer that can lead a session in the summer in the park? Or are you interested in exploring a movement form with a community group? Let us know how you can get our community moving.

Scarborough Arts Writes: Are you a writer than can lead a session on memoir writing, poetic techniques, slam, or creative approaches to fiction? We want submissions from local area writers who can get our community writing down their stories.

Scarborough Arts Talks: Do you want to organize a critique session, where artists working in a medium can come together and give advice and support on each other’s work? Maybe you want to engage the community through a panel discussion? If there is a community conversation that you think needs to happen, submit a proposal to get us talking.

Scarborough Arts Walks: Are you the kind of artist that works in, not just on, landscapes? Do you want to do creative walks through the Rouge, or explore Scarborough’s other magnificent places and spaces by taking community members on an art walk? If so, submit a proposal and we can get you walking!

Interested facilitators will be expected to:

  • lead a 2-hour session that would be free to Scarborough Arts members, and open to the rest of the community (at a nominal fee). These sessions will take place in the Bluffs gallery or around the Scarborough Arts property at 1859 Kingston Road.
  • Attend a series of training sessions, prior to July, that will prepare facilitators to develop, lead, and deliver a community arts offering
  • Facilitators will be paid a standard rate for their services. In addition to remunerating artists for their facilitation work, material costs associated with these events will be paid for by Scarborough Arts.

Interested artists should fill out an application form HERE.

Extended Deadline for Applications: Friday, May 20, 2016

Contact: Sasha Kovacs, Interim Program Director, Scarborough Arts (programs@scarborougharts.com or 416-698-7322)

If you have ideas for a special project in the community that falls outside the boundaries of the streams listed above, please contact Interim Program Director Sasha Kovacs at programs@scarborougharts.com and provide specific details of your project (scope, objectives, budget). We will get in touch with you to discuss other proposals in the coming months.”
