Call for Presentations: Acting Now for Social Change
“Are you conducting research on or spearheading an innovative arts-based initiative that addresses health, public safety, urban planning, entrepreneurship, democratic participation, or diversity? Do you have critical lessons to share with your peers from across Canada?
If so, the Michaëlle Jean Foundation and the Carleton University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences invite you to present at the second Power of the Arts National Forum: Acting Now for Social Change, slated for November 7 to 9, 2014, in Ottawa.
This year, the National Forum builds on the arts for social change action plan developed at the inaugural Forum by more than 300 researchers, business leaders, legal experts, policymakers, urban planners, youth, health practitioners, artists, and representatives of other sectors.
Submit Your Proposal
For the Forum’s workshops, we are soliciting presentations addressing the ways Canadians are implementing and/or researching arts for social change initiatives, which relate or correspond to action items in the national plan. We invite you to submit a 500-word summary of your proposed presentation to the Forum Steering Committee, which will select eight presentations that reflect the following themes:
• Community and Urban Renewal
• Diversity and Social Inclusion
• New Technologies and Social Change
• Mental and Physical Health
• Democratic Participation
• Economic Development, Enterprise and the Social Economy
• Cultural Institutions and Community Integration
• Public Safety and Access to Justice
Please note the following:
· Your proposal must be sent to info@fmjf.ca, no later than midnight EST, on June 10, 2014,
· It must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document attachment,
· Beneath the title of your presentation, you must indicate:
o The theme your presentation will address (e.g. democratic participation),
o Your name,
o Your title and the name of the organization or institution you represent, and
o Your city and province/territory.
· In your document, you must explain how your presentation relates to one of the eight forum themes and to at least one action item in the arts for social change action plan.

“Faites-vous des recherches sur la santé, la sécurité publique, l’urbanisme, l’entrepreneuriat, la participation démocratique ou la diversité ou dirigez-vous une initiative culturelle novatrice dans un de ces domaines ? Avez-vous des enseignements essentiels à partager avec vos pairs venus de l’ensemble du Canada?
Dans ce cas, la Fondation Michaëlle Jean et la Faculté des lettres et des sciences sociales de l’Université Carleton vous invitent à présenter un exposé au deuxième Forum national Le Pouvoir des arts : agir maintenant pour le changement social qui se tiendra du 7 au 9 novembre 2014, à Ottawa.
Cette année, le Forum national s’appuie sur le plan d’action sur les arts comment outil de transformation sociale élaboré lors du premier Forum par plus de 300 chercheurs, chefs d’entreprise, juristes, décideurs, urbanistes, jeunes, professionnels de la santé, artistes et représentants d’autres secteurs.
Soumettez votre proposition
Nous sollicitons, pour les ateliers du Forum, des exposés sur les façons dont les Canadiens mettent en œuvre et/ou étudient des initiatives dans lesquelles les arts sont mis au service du changement social et qui sont en rapport avec les éléments de notre plan d’action national ou y correspondent. Nous vous invitons à soumettre un résumé de votre projet d’exposé en 500 motsau Comité directeur du Forum, qui choisira huit exposés sur les thèmes suivants :
• Renouveau communautaire et urbain
• Diversité et inclusion sociale
• Nouvelles technologies et changement social
• Santé mentale et physique
• Participation démocratique
• Développement économique, entrepreneuriat et économie sociale
• Institutions culturelles et intégration communautaire
• Sécurité publique et accès à la justice
Veuillez noter ce qui suit :
· Votre proposition doit être envoyée à info@fmjf.ca, au plus tard le 10 juin 2014 à minuit HE,
· Elle doit être présentée sous forme de document en Microsoft Word en pièce jointe,
· Sous le titre de votre exposé, vous devez indiquer :
o Le thème traité dans votre exposé (p. ex. participation démocratique),
o Votre nom,
o Votre titre et le nom de l’organisation ou de l’institution que vous représentez,
o Votre ville et votre province/territoire.
· Dans votre document, vous devez expliquer en quoi votre exposé est en rapport avec un des huit thèmes du forum et avec un au moins des éléments du plan d’action sur les arts comme outil de transformation sociale.
