Conversation Report: Community-Engaged Art in times of Physical Distancing (Arts Network Ottawa)

“On Thursday April 16, 2020 Arts Network Ottawa hosted an open forum conversation concerning the work of community-engaged artists in Ottawa amidst and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This conversation was an intended first step in coordinating a network of support and collaboration among community-engaged artists and the organizations who support their work through this time of crisis.

Five main topics of concern emerged from the conversation:

  • Health and Wellness
  • Access and Equity
  • Working with Children
  • Performing Arts
  • Tech Innovation

Salient questions, concerns, ideas and resources from this initial conversation are included here.

Arts Network Ottawa is now collaborating with a number of artists and organizations involved in order to respond to the issues, concerns and questions raised in our discussions together via a series of webinars and virtual workshops which will delve deeper into each of these main topics. For information on programming as it is announced, sign up here.

If you to are concerned with like questions and want to join this on-going conversation and/or collaborate in the delivery of programming, please reach out to Madeleine Boyes-Manseau, Program Coordinator at programs[at]artsnetottawa.ca. We are keen to connect the conversation we are having in Ottawa with like conversations and initiatives taking place across the country.

This conversation was hosted as part of the Neighbourhood Arts Ottawa community-engaged arts residency program, a program of Arts Network Ottawa, funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Community Foundation of Ottawa.”
