White_Water_GalleryWhite Water Gallery Artist-Run Centre is seeking a fun, motivated rising-star who wants to make their mark on the arts industry by applying to be our next Executive Director.

Incorporated in 1977, White Water Gallery has been North Bay’s not-for-profit Artist-Run Centre for almost 40 years. Understanding the need to advance the public’s threshold for viewing contemporary art the gallery is committed to supporting artistic practices that prioritize risk and innovation and encouraging outreach programming that promotes accessibility and shared knowledge.

Requirements:
BFA, MFA, or MA degree in the Arts and/or Arts Administration, or a minimum of three years related work experience. The ideal candidate will have garnered a wide range of experience in arts administration, curating, building strong professional relationships, financial management, grant writing, and leading a team. They will also be highly organized, self-directed, and able to manage their time and distractions efficiently, work under pressure and meet deadlines. Priority will be given to applicants with an existing arts practice.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will:

  • Develop the Gallery’s yearly budget, oversee day-to-day financial transactions, and present quarterly financial reports.
  • Research, write and compile all operating, special project and employment grant applications.
  • Oversee the Gallery’s annual call for submissions and selections process as the head of the programming committee, and coordinate all exhibitions and special programs.
  • Monitor and motivate the organization’s fundraising campaigns.
  • Develop and guide short and long-term operational planning in collaboration with the Board.
  • Manage all press releases, promotions, social media, and publicity.
  • Lead all gallery preparations and installations in accordance with internal guidelines and government regulations.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and oversee secondary staff and volunteers.
  • Attend regular board meetings and report on all financial, operational, and programming activities.
  • Be flexible and available on some evenings and weekends for openings, meetings and other events.

Skills Required:

  • A strong knowledge of current trends in Canadian contemporary art.
  • A background in the not-for-profit cultural sector.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong computer skills, and proficiency with general office/design software.
  • Ability to strategize short and long-term goals and develop an innovative vision for the organization.
  • Proven track record of seeing projects through to successful completion.
  • A passion for inclusivity and understanding of regional arts challenges.
  • The ability to implement curatorial standards for the exhibition of works and a working knowledge of archival and proper art handling procedures.

Position Details:
The position is part-time/full time based on the needs/finances of the organization. Remuneration for this position is dependent upon qualifications and experience but will fall within sector standards.
