Business-focused workshops for artists (ArtReach Toronto)

ArtReach Toronto logo

“Business is not generally an artists’ forte, but every artist needs to know about the back-end to ensure they are successful and that they do not get taken advantage of. Vice Versa, a manager needs to know what his or her role is in order to manage the artist effectively. This workshop is geared towards artists and managers – we will discuss what the role of a manager is, what basic services they should be providing, reviewing contracts, how to register your name as a business / and what that means & offers (for the artist and manager), as well as how to navigate SOCAN and copyrights to begin generating an income from your business.

This workshop is geared towards recording/performing and visual artists.

Facilitators include: Gaurav Sawhney (Shad’s Manager, Managing Director of CTC West) Ashley McKenzie Barnes (Visual Artist, Curator, and board member of CARFAC) Dave Guenette (Manager, Arts and Crafts)

ArtReach Toronto is hosting several business-focused workshops geared towards artists. The Cultural Careers series will focus on marketing, branding, business practices, portfolio development, curation, management, and many other facets of the game. ArtReach Toronto provides capacity building initiatives that aim to strengthen the community of young artists working towards social change in Toronto. Examples include grant writing supports for young people applying to the fund, mentorship for youth and groups that are provided with funding, as well as free monthly workshops on different topics of interest as part of the GOAL Youth Capacity Building Workshop Series. Attendance at this workshop will count as a credit towards a certificate in the GOAL series. The Cultural Careers Program is supported by the Betty Averbach Foundation and the Cultural Strategic Investment Fund.”
