“Are you a playwright, choreographer, composer or performance creator?
Were you born in 1995? Then we want you.

This fall, Nightswimming is launching a 5-year project to commission 5 new works by performance creators born in 1995. Nightswimming was also born in 1995, when we premiered our first play, Don Druick’s Through the Eyes, at The Theatre Centre in Toronto.

Nightswimming is requesting applications from theatre creators across Canada.

For the next 5 years, we’ll accept proposals from artists born in 1995. Tell us what you want to create. We’ll read the proposals, short list the applicants, and then commission one proposal each year.

In 2020 we’ll celebrate our 25th anniversary by showcasing the 5 projects and artists we commissioned over the 5 years.

Nightswimming’s 5×25 is open to writers, choreographers, composers, designers and activists who love performance and have an idea and a project they want to create. We’re open to anything that happens in a space with an audience.

If we accept your proposal, you’ll join our roster of commissioned artists, which include Carmen Aguirre and Anita Majumdar. We’ll provide a $5,000 commission, develop a process with you to create the piece, bring you to Toronto to work on it, and seek out producers or festivals to get it in front of an audience.
