Open Forum: Racism in Alberta Artist-run Centres (Alberta Association of Artist-run Centres, Dec 5)

The Alberta Association of Artist-run Centres (AAARC) will be hosting an open forum regarding racism in artist-run centres in Alberta.

The Open Forum is a platform for artists and arts workers based in Alberta to share their experiences and discuss the anti-racism and anti-oppression work needed in artist-run centres and the broader arts community; it is a space for the community to voice concerns and engage in critical public dialogue with one another and with Alberta artist-run centres. This conversation will be attended by the current staff and Board Members of artist-run centres. Other art professionals including staff and owners of commercial galleries, museum staff and leadership and studio and artist collectives are invited to listen and participate in the conversation.

The forum will be facilitated by: Jordan Baylon; Iftu Hargaaya, Nitu Purna and Priscilla Cherry of The Colour Factor; and Samantha Matters from Future Ancestors. The event will also be attended by a clinical social worker, who will be present to offer private trauma support throughout the conversation. Participants will be able to indicate upon registration if they require any additional accommodations or accessibility options.

The event will be held virtually, over Zoom, hosted by a secure paid account. Participants will be emailed a zoom link the day of the conversation.”
