Opportunity: Emerging Professional Artists (Inner City Angels, Toronto)

“Inner City Angels, a Toronto arts education charity, is seeking emerging professional artists interested in learning and working in the arts education field.

Inner City Angels brings imaginative rich topic inspired interdisciplinary arts programs to children in Toronto inner city and priority neighbourhood elementary schools. Our artists incorporate storytelling, poetry, new media, design, craft and visual arts in the creative arts experience averaging 12-day residencies per school and reaching up to 50 schools per year.

We are especially interested in artists who:

  • represent the rich cultural heritages of Toronto
  • display talent in more than one art form such as new media, textiles, craft, design and visual art
  • have or are building a freelance career that includes but is not limited to arts education
  • are committed to work in priority and inner city neighbourhood schools (many located north of the 401)
  • bring rich topic program ideas that encourage inquiry, exploration and invention
  • are committed to linking curriculum to their arts practice.

Opportunities begin in spring 2013 and include orientation retreat and mentoring with veteran artists and educators in inner city classrooms. Emerging artists receive honoraria for their work in the classroom.

Artists working in Toronto schools must have a current vulnerable sector including criminal and mental health check via the Toronto Police Services or other local police services.
