Salon Connex: “A Chance to Speak Your Mind About Art in Frederiction”

“The Charlotte Street Arts Centre, a focal point for creation, presentation and education in the arts, is pleased to partner for another year with Gallery Connexion, Fredericton’s only artist-run centre, to bring you the fourth SALON CONNEX, an opportunity to talk about what matters in art.

The SALON CONNEX salon series are mediated and lively discussion forums, aimed at facilitating a learning curve in the community by providing a space and time to address what art might mean. Topics for discussion are always centred on Gallery Connexion’s world-class exhibitions and the content they present.

This upcoming salon will focus on the exhibition currently on display at Gallery Connexion, entitled 10 Ans d’Urgence by Montreal-based collective, ATSA (L’ACTION TERRORISTE SOCIALEMENT ACCEPTABLE).

Their exhibition “10 Ans d’Urgence” brings together works by more than twenty artists who made original contributions to the collective’s État d’Urgence event between 1998 and 2010. ATSA describes État d’Urgence as a “manifestival” – a category that plays off the French word for a political demonstration ‘manifestation’ and the evocations of a public festival. ATSA (L’Action Terroriste Socialement Acceptable) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1998 by artists Pierre Allard and Annie Roy. The pair create transdisciplinary works and events, and as a creative, pacifist, and responsible movement, ATSA is committed to producing and promoting events which help advance the causes of sustainable development and the fundamental rights of humankind and of nature.

The upcoming salon takes place on Tuesday, August 27th from 7-9pm at Gallery Connexion, 440 York Street and will moderated by sophia bartholomew, Associate Director at Gallery Connexion. sophia will help guide the discussion around ATSA’s work and raise important questions for consideration. All are welcome to attend and admission is free.”
