The Bridging Festival Celebrates Year Five with Cultural Hotspot – East (Scarborough Arts, ON)

Bridging Fest 2014

Annual festival brings KGO community together under the Lawrence Avenue Bridge for a fifth year

Scarborough Arts is excited to announce the fifth edition of the Bridging Festival, an annual event that brings Scarborough’s Kingston-Galloway/Orton Park community together under the Lawrence Avenue Bridge for music, performances, food, workshops, and more. In addition, the festival celebrates its fifth year by partnering with the inaugural Cultural Hotspot project, along with various other community organizations. The festival runs August 22 and 23, 2014.

The festival kicks off with its Variety Night on Friday, August 22 at 5 p.m. The evening will feature a DJ, musical and spoken word performances, and short films—all outside, at the East Scarborough Festival Market. On August 23, the Arts, Culture and Environmental Festival takes over the space under Lawrence Avenue Bridge from 2-6 p.m. The day will be full of activities, performances, music, vendors—and free food!

“The Bridging Festival truly is a unique event,” says Jen D. Fabico, Interim Executive Director of Scarborough Arts. “It uses an unconventional space to activate a community with music, arts, food, the environment—the list goes on. Each year, we’ve tweaked things to keep the festival fresh and exciting. Our fifth year is extra-special because not only do we continue to shine a light on the KGO community, we also have opened up many doors for communities outside of KGO to come and celebrate with us. We’ve welcomed new partners and participants to ‘bridge’ all of Scarborough. We’re very excited to be a part of the first-ever Cultural Hotspot and to celebrate this milestone.”

The Bridging Festival 2014 is presented by Scarborough Arts in partnership with the City of Toronto – Arts and Culture, East Scarborough Storefront, East Scarborough Festival Market, Scarborough Historical Museum, and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.
