Upcoming at Jumblies Studio

“Based in Toronto and with a national reach, Jumblies Studio is a flexible, integrated, itinerant and interdisciplinary program for learning, mentorship and exploration in Arts that engage with and create Community.

We have a full slate of workshops coming up in the last months of 2012 and in 2013.

All events listed here are taking place in Toronto – locations TBA unless otherwise indicated.

FALL 2012:

Jumblies Seminar presented by Michael Burtt: The Convergence Project
November 22, 2012. Refreshments at 6:30; presentation and discussion from 7-9pm.
Parkdale Activity Recreation Centre (PARC), 1499 Queen St. West
Cost: Free, but PWYC donations appreciated
Michael Burtt, Artistic Director of Making Room, will speak about the Convergence Project, which explored the relationship between meditation, spirituality and community arts.

Artfare Essentials (formerly Arts For All Essentials)
December 6-12, 2012 (9:30-5:30) with December 9th off
Cost: $300
For the 7th time in Toronto and the 11th time in the world! A 6-day intensive workshop about the principals and practices of community-engaged art through experiential activities, discussion, site visits, and more.

WINTER 2013:

Finding Common Ground: facilitated by Lee Maracle and Victoria Freeman
1-5pm: January 4, 11, 18, 25, February 1 and 2, 2013. Will finish with an evening feast on February 2, 2013.
Cost: $200
Learning about and exploring Toronto’s erased history and artistic alliances and cross-cultural collaboration with First Nations. This is a pilot workshop with limited places available. If it fills up we will create a waiting list for the next time.

Project-Percolator
January 13, 14, 20, 21 (9:30-5:30)
Cost: $200
Facilitated by Ruth Howard and colleagues. Bring your own community-engaged project idea, work on plans, schedules, budgets, questions, challenges, test creative activities within a small group and take it to the next stage.

What Happened Next? Oral History and Artmaking
February 20, 21, 23, 24 (9:30-5:30)
Cost: $200
Facilitated by Ruth Howard and colleagues. An in-depth workshop on the ethics, aesthetics, power and pitfalls of performing and making art from recounted memories.

Directing Community Performance
March 2-4, 2013 (9:30-5:30)
Cost: $180
A master-class facilitated by long time Jumblies director Varrick Grimes – open to all interested artists including practicing and aspiring directors.
