Value of Halifax’s 4Cs Foundation’s Support of Community-Engaged Arts Projects

Here’s an excerpt from a recent article from The Chronicle Herald, which we found about from our Facebook page, about the great work that 4Cs Foundation is doing. If you’re in the Halifax area, the 4Cs next grant application deadline is May 1st, so get a jump start on the applications now! In the article by Vicki Grant, Terri Whetstone, 4Cs Executive Director, says:

“Art-making is the context to bring people together, get them talking, get them engaged. When they’re working together using their hands, conversations start, and then relationships start. Those are the type of linkages we’re looking for.”

She cites a recent example of how well this can work. The foundation backed Music 4 Life, a project joining the Sackville High School band with the mostly retired musicians from the local community band.

“It really revitalized the music program in that school,” Whetstone says. “The final concert was so moving. You could see eye contact going across stage between the kids and the older people. They’d done exactly what we were looking for. There was a connection.”
