Virtual Screening: Visualizing Justice (BEING Studio, Sep 6)

“Explore disability justice from the perspective of BEING artists and their artwork!

Join us for the virtual premiere of Visualizing Justice, a series of five videos that explore what disability justice means through the point of view of artists with disabilities and their artwork. The screening will be hosted by fin-xuan shine, who produced and edited the series, and will be followed by a conversation between Bing Cherry and Jet Coghlan, two of the artists featured in the videos.

Disability justice was coined in 2015 by a group of Black, brown, queer, and trans disabled activists from the Disability Justice Collective, including Patty Berne, Mia Mingus, Leroy Moore, Eli Clare, and Sebastian Margaret.

Visualizing Justice is a collaboration between BEING artists and activists/artists in the disability arts community. Combining captioning, art, and interviews, this video series dives into five key elements of disability justice in a way that is accessible to a variety of audiences, including those with intellectual and cognitive disabilities.

The film series includes conversations from Pree Rehal, Henry Hong, Jet Coghlan, Bing Cherry, Carmen Papalia, Debbie Ratcliffe, Rebel Black and Charisse Rayne. Music by Bucko and video editing by fin-xuan shine.”
