Sommaire de la recherche pour les arts communautaires francophones au Saskatchewan – le 11 novembre, 2010
D’une liste de 57 sources, nous avons identifié 9 projets, programmes, et organismes en arts communautaires francophones et 2 ressources.
Le site web fransaskois.info a été une ressource très importante puisqu’il comprend un bottin de toutes les associations communautaires au Saskatchewan, ainsi que les nombreux conseils, fédérations, comités, etc. qui traitaient de la culture fransaskoise. Le Conseil culturel fransaskois nous ont donné les contacts d’autres groupes qui faisaient de l’art communautaire au Saskatchewan, incluant de la formation musicale, de la danse folklorique, et un festival de film francophone.
Il y a plusieurs petites communautés francophones au Saskatchewan qui offrent une programmation en art, que ce soit organisé ou non, comme l’Association communautaire de Bellegarde, ou le Comité culturel fransaskois à Debden. À Regina, il y a notamment le Théâtre Oskana, un groupe de théâtre communautaire qui offre des ateliers dramatiques pour les jeunes. À Saskatoon, nous avons parlé à Adrienne Sawchuk, la directrice générale de la Fédération des aînés fransaskois, qui offrent plusieurs projets en arts dramatiques, médiatiques et visuels. La concentration des projets est sur la santé et le bien-être des aînés ainsi que la transmission d’histoires et d’expériences des aînés aux jeunes afin de ne perdre les traditions fransaskoises culturelles importantes. Adrienne m’a parlé d’un récent projet qui adapte une pièce de théâtre pour refleter la culture fransaskoise ainsi que pour démontrer l’abus des aînés. Nous avons aussi parlé à Claudine Audette-Rozon, la présidente du groupe d’artistes autogerés bilingue Art X 9, un groupe d’environ douze artistes professionels et émergents basée à Saskatoon qui font des expositions en arts visuels et des ateliers à différents villages et villes à travers la province du Saskatchewan et à travers le pays. Courrament, Art X 9 ont une exposition intitulée “L’autoportrait/The Self Portrait” qui voyage à travers le Canada, d’Ottawa à Vancouver et de nombreux endroits entre les deux, afin de démontrer le travail des artistes francophones. Lorsque la discipline des arts communautaires comme telle ne semble pas être trop reconnue, les comités, fédérations, et associations culturelles semblent être pour la plupart très bien informés sur les autres groupes artistiques. En cherchant d’autres projets en arts communautaires, j’ai souvent été conseillé de parler aux mêmes groupes, et la vaste majorité connaissaient le Conseil culturel fransaskois. En parlant aux groupes d’arts communautaires anglophones, c’était très différent. Presqu’aucun groupe ne connaissaient de groupes en arts communautaires francophones, ce qui montre un grand écart. Heureusement, notre projet pourra aider à rejoindre les anglophones et francophones!

Summary of research for Francophone community arts in Saskatchewan – November 11th, 2010
We contacted 57 sources and identified 9 Francophone community arts projects, programs, and organizations and 2 resources.
The website fransaskois.info was an especially important resource as it provides a directory of all the community associations in Saskatchewan, as well as the numerous councils, federations and committees that deal with franco-saskatchewan culture. The Conseil culturel fransaskois gave us contacts for other community arts groups in Saskatchewan, including music training, folk dancing, and a Francophone film festival.
There are several small Francophone communities in Saskatchewan that offer arts programming, whether it is organized or not, like the Association communautaire de Bellegarde, or the Comité culturel fransaskois in Debden. In Regina, there is Théâtre Oskana, a community theatre group that offers theatre workshops for youth. In Saskatoon, we spoke to Adrienne Sawchuk, the general director of the Fédération des aînés fransaskois, which offer several projects in theatre, visual arts, and media arts. Their focus is on the health and well-being of senior citizens, as well as the transfer of stories and wisdom from seniors to youth so as not to lose the important franco-saskatchewan cultural traditions. Adrienne told us about a recent project that reworks a play to reflect franco-saskatchewan culture and to inform about ageism. We also spoke to Claudine Audette-Rozon, the president of the bilingual artist collective Art X 9, a group of about 12 professional and emerging artists that have visual arts exhibits and offer workshops in different cities and towns in the province of Saskatchewan as well as across the country. Currently, Art X 9 is showing an exhibit called “L’autoportrait/The Self Portrait” that is traveling across Canada, from Ottawa to Vancouver and many stops in between, to showcase the work of Francophone artists. While the practice of community arts itself does not seem to be a well-known field, the committees, federations and cultural associations seemed to be, for the most part, very well informed on the surrounding community arts groups. While searching for Francophone community arts, I was often recommended to speak to the same list of groups, and the vast majority at least knew of the Conseil culturel fransaskois. Speaking to the Anglophone community arts groups, however, was very different. Hardly any group knew of Francophone community arts, which shows a disconnect between the two. Luckily (and hopefully), ArtBridges will be able to connect them!
