« Our festival line-up is now locked down! We have partnered with New Dance Horizon (NDH), Folk Festival Regina, Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Center (SICC), The Artful Dodger, Regina Public Library, First Nations University, and Pasqua Native Health Center to make for an action packed week.
NDH will be launching their own five day festival, The Ice & Fire Festival, with a free skating show on Feb. 13th. Tickets for Sarah Abbott’s Out in the Cold Film Screening & Lara Kramer’s Native Girl Syndrome Performance on Sunday Feb. 16th can be picked up for half price with the purchase of a Storytellers Festival Pass. The Festival Pass will also get you into a panel discussion curated by Edward Poitras with performers from the Ice & Fire festival on Feb. 18th from 6:30 to 7:30 @NDH. More info on NDH’s Ice & Fire Festival can be found on their website here.
Bringing back the MOVE bus tour this year is Chery’l L’Hirondelle! After the great time we had doing this in 2011 we knew we had to bring it back. The tour will start at the Regina Public Library Downtown @11am on Feb. 17th and again @1pm. You’ll then want to make your way to Pasqua Hospital by 3pm for the pipe ceremony in the Native Health Centre. Enjoy free food and great storytelling? Stick around! We will be providing snacks and Daphie Pooyak will be sharing stories of only her most interesting experiences.
A Tribe Called Red (ATCR) will be performing Feb. 18th at the Exchange. In partnership with the Regina Folk Fest, tickets will be half price ($10) with the purchase of a Storytellers Festival Pass. We only have fifty half price tickets to ATCR’s show so make sure to get them before they’re gone! Half price tickets will not be available at the Exchange and MUST be purchased with a Festival Pass!
In partnership with Artful Dodger, our luncheon series will feature distinguished storytellers Jack Dalton (Yup’ik Inuit and European) on Tuesday Feb. 18th and Stephen Fadden (Haudenosaunee) on Wednesday Feb. 19th. Stephen will be sharing the Glass Tipi at the First Nations University with emerging storytellers Jaqueline Anaquod (Cree & Saulteaux) and Novalee Fox (Cree) from 10:30 to 12 on Feb. 20th. After lunch Jack Dalton will be joining Bob Smoker from 1:30 to 2 in the Tipi for more storytelling.
SICC will be hosting storytellers Wendel Starr and Margaret Cote with host Mike Pinay Friday morning @10 and again @1 in the Glass Tipi. Then join us for our closing ceremony at Sâkêwêwak @4!
Still want more? Great, it’s not over yet!
Ryan McMahon will be kicking off the evening with a live set and recording of the Red Man Laughing podcast from 7:30 to 9. Taking over the stage with their words and music will be our headliners for the evening two amazing Indigenous women musicians, Moe Clark and Mihirangi, who both use looping! »
