« Calling all Teachers, Artists and Students!
ArtsSmarts is pleased to launch the 2013 – 2014 Youth Creativity Challenge. Now in its third round of funding, the Youth Creativity Challenge has a history of sparking youth-led art projects in classrooms across the country, allowing grades K-12 students to collaboratively express their ideas and become active creators of their future. Since its inception in 2011, the Youth Creativity Challenge has engaged over 2,100 students from across the country that devised and led 25 projects. ArtsSmarts is gearing up to fund even more projects for the 2013-2014 year.

The 2013-2014 Youth Creativity Challenge Fund will provide cash support of $1,000 to $5,000 per project. These projects must engage at least one class and include at least one arts discipline and one curriculum subject matter. Applications will be accepted from all Canadian private and public schools and families who are home-schooling. With dynamic project-based learning, devised and led by students, the Youth Creativity Challenge is gaining momentum coast-to-coast, as an effective way to engage youth and address the big questions they have about themselves, their culture, and their heritage.

ArtsSmarts’ Chair Rick Wolfe calls the Youth Creativity Challenge, “…a necessity in today’s schools. The Youth Creativity Challenge gives students the opportunity to be visionaries, while allowing teachers and professional artists the opportunity to support and nourish the next generation’s creative instincts.”

The 2013-2014 Youth Creativity Challenge application deadline is November 15, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. To apply, visit our website www.artssmarts.ca or contact Project Coordinator Ava Markus by email at amarkus@artssmarts.ca.

ArtsSmarts’ 2013-2014 Youth Creativity Challenge is funded through a mix of public and private supporters, with lead support from the Youth Take Charge Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage.

About ArtsSmarts
ArtsSmarts is a national arts education charity that demonstrates the impact of the arts as a way of engaging K to 12 students in learning. ArtsSmarts focuses on the development of six core competencies of successful arts-infused project-based learning: Creativity, Collaboration, Inclusiveness, Inquisitiveness, Expressiveness & Engagement. From constructing a large multi-media visual arts installation piece after an inquiry about waste its impact on the environment to designing and painting sets for a play about bullying and then touring it to local schools, we’re seeing hundreds of arts-based projects that matter to these students – they are success fully using the arts as a means to developing new and exciting knowledge. We’re changing the way that students learn and how teachers teach by unleashing creativity and accelerating the power of learning, resulting in increased student engagement and success in the classroom. »
