« Overview:
The Manager – Youth Programs will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of EAST, a multi-arts program for youth presented by Scarborough Arts in partnership with Agincourt Community Services Association, Heart Beatz – Cliffcrest Community Centre and Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough. Featuring an urban music, project/event management and documentary component, the program uses the universal medium of arts and creativity to encourage healthy, innovative forms of self expression, teach broadly-based transferable life skills and provide direct employment preparation training, among other goals. The Manager – Youth Programs will work in a fast-paced environment with Scarborough Arts staff, volunteers and partnering organizations to deliver all components of the EAST program.
The Manager – Youth Programs will take a lead role in investigating opportunities for expansion and sustainability of the EAST program. This position is primarily focused on the delivery of all aspects of the EAST program but allows for time devoted to Scarborough Arts’ overall youth programming strategy and framework and creation of a Scarborough Arts Youth Advisory Group. Major Responsibilities:
- Lead in the planning and marketing of EAST music, project management and documentary activities, including music creation workshops, recording sessions, event planning activities and others
- Manage overall implementation of EAST project by providing leadership, support and direction, including program planning and evaluation, to ensure the objectives of the project are achieved and work plan is followed
- On-site coordination of EAST music and project management sessions, including set up and take down of equipment and general program support and supervision
- Updating and monitoring of EAST budget
- Coordinate outreach to youth and emerging artists, including assisting with materials, mailings, phone calls and meetings with schools, community centres and youth groups
- Assist with securing program instructors and contractors, including negotiation and drafting of artist contracts
- Preparation of Ontario Trillium Foundation progress and final reports
- Assist in recruitment, supervision and orientation of EAST program staff and volunteers
- Schedule and coordinate EAST partner meetings and ensure active involvement of partners and stakeholders (Steering Committee and Advisory Committee)
- Coordinate planning and marketing of EAST showcase events and program activities
- Transportation of program materials and equipment to program site
- Oversee general administration of the EAST program, including registration
- Assist in ensuring on-line and digital technology presence for program, including website and social media
- Oversee documentation and evaluation stages of program
- Coordinate program participant interview, registration and orientation process
- Work with SA staff and partners to investigate and secure additional sources of support to ensure long-term sustainability of EAST program
- Work with SA staff to develop new programming and evaluate existing Scarborough Arts programs for youth
- Participate in development and evaluation of overall Scarborough Arts programming goals, strategy and framework in collaboration with SA staff
- Coordinate establishment and ongoing activities of Scarborough Arts Youth Advisory Group, including outreach, registration and attendance at monthly meetings
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Background and post-secondary education in arts, education or community development-related discipline
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Experience working with youth
- Experience with event organization and planning, particularly musical performance is an asset
- Effective time-management, multi-tasking and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse community groups
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Explorer) required; additional applications (eg. Photoshop, InDesign, WordPress) considered an asset
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License – Class G and access to a car
- Completion of Police Check prior to commencing employment
- Ability to work flexible hours – some weekday evenings and weekends will be involved
Contract Details:
Contract Dates: late August, 2013 – July 31, 2015.
Hours: 28 hours a week; 4 days.
Salary: $21/hour
