What is Corner Stone?
Corner Stone is an 8′ diameter pebble mosaic that was made in an open studio with community members, and then installed in Winchester Square Park.
What is Flight Path?
Flight Path is an installation outside of St James Town Community Corner of 50+ mosaic pieces made during 30 mobile workshops.
History and Future of Promise in the Park
Both Corner Stone and Flight Path are components of the larger community art project, Promise in the Park. Since January 2014 over 600 community members have been involved in the Promise in the Park project. Over the next two years, community members will participate in song, movement, creative writing, visual art, and fabric and hand-stitching art workshops which will culminate in a public community performance work!
Promise in the Park is a multidisciplinary project that is cultivating community engagement in arts in Toronto’s inner city Winchester Park, St James Town, and Cabbagetown neighbourhoods. Through a 4-year artistic process, we will showcase, cross pollinate, and grow the unknown or unacknowledged cultural riches that are present in the area, catalyze new social connections, and revitalize its public spaces by creating, in concert with community members who live there, new permanent and ephemeral public art.
