ARTISTS LIVEN UP HARRISON PROPERTIES IN SCARBOROUGH
WITH ACTIVITIES IN VISUAL ART, MUSIC, DANCE & LITERARY ARTS
« On Saturday, August 27, 2016, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Scarborough Arts livens up the historic Harrison Properties—a park overlooking the beautiful Scarborough Bluffs—with Art in the Park: Harrison Properties. This multi-arts event that brings together emerging and professional artists to showcase Scarborough’s artistic diversity and vibrancy.
In addition to providing a platform for local artists to sell and display their work, Art in the Park: Harrison Properties encourages artists and the public to create artistic experiences collaboratively and to engage with art in all its forms as a community through various interactive and accessible inter-arts activities throughout the day. All activities are free and open to the public.
Highlights of the event include:
- Over 40 local artist vendors and makers selling their paintings and crafts
- Art Battle live painting competition featuring audience members and emerging and professional artists
- A writing workshop with University of Toronto Scarborough professor Daniel Scott Tysdal organized by Open Book Publishers Organization and the Toronto Arts Council as part of the What’s Your Story Scarborough? event series
- Readings by What’s Your Story Scarborough? authors Cherie Dimaline, Liam Card, Elana Wolff, and Leanne Simpson
- A panel discussion on the future for emerging artists in Scarborough featuring artists from Y+ contemporary, moderated by Scarborough Arts Program Director Sasha Kovacs
- In addition, the event features a silent auction (with proceeds supporting Scarborough Arts’ children and youth programs), poetry and fiction readings by Scarborough Arts members, and creative movement workshops.

At the event, Scarborough Arts also announces its new slate of community arts programming for 2016-2017. Guests get to meet the arts facilitators, try out the activities, and register for the workshops. More information about the new SA Suite of Programs will be announced on our website soon.
