« Learn the art of audio storytelling.
At FIXT POINT, we’ve spent ten years creating community-based initiatives that connect people to the arts and their cultural heritage through audio storytelling and place-based performance. As access to recording and editing technologies proliferate, the medium is becoming democratized. But opportunities to access quality training are few and far between. FIXT POINT Arts & Media is piloting a new training program that will give young women and non-binary youth the knowledge and practical skills they need to produce high-quality, compelling audio stories, and teach them how to use the medium of audio storytelling to engage their communities in meaningful ways.
The two-week workshop combines hands-on experience with in-studio training. Participants will learn and practice the following skills:
- community outreach
- interview and recording techniques
- narrative shaping
- audio editing
Participants will have the opportunity to interview members of a Toronto community or neighbourhood of their choosing. At the end of the workshop, participants will have created a short audio piece from their own gathered source material.

Cohort #1: November 13th – 17th & 20th -24th
