New Programs Launched to Serve Toronto’s Newcomers and Refugees

« Toronto Arts Council (TAC) is pleased to announce the creation of two new funding programs that will increase arts access opportunities for Toronto’s newcomers and refugees.

Following consultation sessions with members of Toronto’s arts and settlement sectors, including newcomer and refugee artists, TAC has developed these programs to support the city’s newest residents.

The Newcomer and Refugee Arts Engagement program provides targeted support to organizations and collectives working with newcomers and refugees through the arts.

The Newcomer and Refugee Artist Mentorship program provides funding for individual newcomer and refugee professional artists to work with a mentor in their chosen arts discipline. TAC is pleased to be partnering with Neighbourhood Arts Network on this component. Neighbourhood Arts Network will be available to assist applicants in finding a mentor and/or to provide support for translation services.

“Toronto’s arts and culture community is deeply enriched by the contributions of newcomer artists,” says Claire Hopkinson, Toronto Arts Council’s Director and CEO. “These programs recognize both the cultural contributions of our newcomers and barriers they face.”

The deadline for applications is May 1, 2017

TAC will be hosting information sessions in January and February, 2017. The dates of the information sessions will be posted to TAC’s website shortly.
